About My Practice
In 1994, I earned my Ph.D. from the American Psychological Association-Accredited (APA-accredited) program in Clinical Psychology from St. John's University in New York. In 1995, I finished post-doctoral training in Forensic Psychology from the USC School of Medicine, program in Psychiatry, Law and Behavioral Sciences and worked thereafter for the California juvenile prison system. In addition to private practice since 1996, I have served as a consultant for the Los Angeles and Orange County Courts, have been an Associate Professor and Director of Clinical Training at Argosy University. I am actively engaged in volunteerism as a psychotherapist via WomenShelter of Long Beach. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist via the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA) and an EMDRIA registered Consultant in Training.
Over the past 20+ years, I have been successfully serving our community's mental health needs and am committed to meeting those needs with compassion and professionalism. As a result, a high percentage of my private psychotherapy practice is from word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients. I help my clients marshal the tools to create the healthy balance in daily life and relationships. Symptom reduction is a main focus. Treatment is offered for:
- Addiction Recovery
- Anxiety-related Issues and Phobias
- Childhood History of Physical/Sexual Abuse and/or Emotional Neglect
- Dissociative Disorders
- Domestic Violence
- Migraines, Tension Headaches, Cluster Headaches
- Physical & Emotional Trauma due to Accident, Injury or Illness
- PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder)
- Relationship & Intimacy Issues
- Victims of Violent Crime
My clients include:
I primarily utilize an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing; visit www.EMDRIA.org for official description) approach which provides accelerated healing for a variety of symptoms. I also draw upon the use of depth psychology and mindfulness-based interventions, and psycho-spiritual sensitivity to clients' faith traditions.
For couples, we can utilize PET-C (Pragmatic Experiential Therapy for Couples) which is a three- to six-month structured program employing the optional use of a workbook, and communication skill building in sessions.
I am an EMDRIA registered Consultant in Training and offer individual and group consultations for therapists accruing hours toward EMDRIA Certification at reduced rates while I am a Consultant in Training.
